Modern dining chairs with the character of classics: at Hauptstadt Möblerei, you will find newly manufactured chairs based on the designs of the Bauhaus and Vienna coffeehouses. Two series take center stage: the Milano cantilever chair with Vienna cane, beechwood frame and chrome base, Made in Italy, and the Lima armchair with cane, solid wood and leather or fabric upholstery. Both are available for immediate delivery, in any quantity and in several colors.

The series at a glance

• Milano cantilever chair: The classic based on Marcel Breuer and Mart Stam: springy chrome-plated tubular steel, with a beech seat and backrest featuring hand-woven Vienna cane. Available as a cantilever chair and as a cantilever chair with armrests, in black, brown and beige, plus versions with a black frame.
• Lima armchair: Beechwood, cane in the backrest, and a padded leather or fabric seat. Available in black, brown, cognac, green and blue. Comfortable enough for long dinners, yet slim enough to fit six chairs around the table.
• More modern chairs: Upholstered chairs, shell chairs, bar stools with Vienna cane and Thonet-style chairs.

Vienna cane: the most sought-after chair style of the year

The Vienna cane, also known as cane or rattan weave, is the octagonal pattern made from rattan strips that has featured in the Thonet-coffeehouse chair since 1859 and in cantilever chairs since the Bauhaus. It is lightweight, airy, durable and works with wooden tables as well as glass and concrete. New chairs like Milano and Lima have advantages when you need six or eight matching chairs or want to buy additional ones later. Vintage chairs are unique pieces or sets with a history. Frequently asked questions

Does Vienna cane hold up to everyday use?

Yes, with normal use, for many years. Do not stand on the seat or sit on it with wet clothes. Milano uses genuine, hand-woven rattan cane.

Can I buy individual replacement chairs?

Yes, Milano and Lima are series chairs and are available in any quantity.

How many chairs fit around my table?

Allow about 60 cm of table width per person; armchairs require a little more. The dimensions are listed with each chair.

What is the difference between a cantilever chair and a four-legged chair?

A cantilever chair flexes slightly because the tubular steel frame has no rear legs. This makes it comfortable for long evenings.
